The falcon cannot hear the falconer...

For a variety of reasons, I will be stepping down as advisor of Poetic Ramblings starting next year. As was made clear to me during the past five months, I simply do not have the time, and I cannot see the benefit of putting in a partial effort into the group. Mrs. Ford has asked the administration if she can take over, and I expect that she will be given the position, based on her history with the group. I hope she does get it. As soon as the announcement is made, I will post the news here.

I still will make it to any summer meeting, PR reading, etc that I can, and if we do meet this summer, I fully expect that I'll be there.

That's all. Have a great summer.

The Horse Latitudes...

Copied from out latest groupwide email...

The annual dilemma - We cannot meet this week, as I have softball practice, and I've already missed one day this week. BUT! April is poetry month, which means three things:

1) Hallway poetry - stop by ASAP to pick up a packet of poems to put up around the school. I'll cover the English hallway.

2) Announcement poems - if you'd like to read a short poem on the morning announcements, see me to select one.Stephanie, if you'd like to continue your ascendance into the canon, you may submit any of your shorter poems if you'd like. (This offer is good for all poets, and of course, I have final veto power)

3) Flatbread reading & eating. More to come...

We'll make time for a meeting next week if at all possible.

Friday's meeting - cancelled

We will have no meeting Friday for 2 reasons:

1) It will allow all the Poetic Ramblings members who are on the hockey team to mentally focus for Sunday's game.

2) The faculty v. varsity basketball showdown.

We'll meet up again soon...

Thug life

See the attached link (click on the post's title above) for the two toughest poet-gangstas, Eric & Jenna, menacingly flashing our gang sign to all of the MetroWest region.

Big up yourselves.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to all of the poetic ramblers for their performances today at the Poetry Out Loud final. This was so great! More ramblers in the top three!

I had fully intended on flashing our gang sign at the crowd today, but I got swept up in the excitement and forgot.

But seriously, you all were awesome. Check in with the BHS Poetry Out Loud site this week to get video updates.

Emergency Meeting Monday

When we return from vacation, we will meet on Monday INSTEAD of Friday, to offer help to any of our eight finalists, as the Poetry Out Loud finals are on Tuesday.

By the way, check out BHS's new POL webpage:

www.burlington.mec.edu/~poetryoutloud

Also, it appears that our plan to record POL poems for BHS students to download may be much easier than I'd feared. Lazarus! We'll have an update on this soon.

Finally, I fear I have dropped the ball horribly on our Flatbread fundraiser. We may not have a meeting until late June. I hope this isn't too late for our seniors, but it might serve as a nice farewell to the 2009 members. Also, our banner was sent back to the drawing board. Needs more info, apparently. But the application was dropped off, and we'll have a date soon.

See you Monday!

Collaborative poem - final edition

No Golden Rules
by Poetic Ramblings

We walked the shore of San Francisco
searching for something intangible under the bridge.
The retreating tide left shadowy pools,
sad footprints of a fleeting past
sliding grains out into the froth
that had left our cups in the years
filling our lungs with what once was
regretting wishing the moments away

You stopped, seeing something in the surf,
while I looked out to the Pacific.
You told me you belonged away from here,
and already, I felt the distance pressing.
Our future crumbled beneath the weight of your words
as the sand that hugged my ankles began to harden.
If only I had the same adhesive effect
On the bones that take you away from me.
